A Funeral Mass for William F. Swank, 76, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 1:00 P.M., Monday, February 17, 2014, with Rev. JCP Sullivan, Parish Priest as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark.

Bill died at his home with his family by his side on Thursday, February 13, 2014. He was born in Newark, Ohio on June 21, 1937 to the late Fredrick and Helen (Lewis) Swank.

Bill, a lifelong parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, was a 1955 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School and was a member of the 1954 undefeated football team. He attended The Ohio State University and worked at Kaiser Aluminum for 42 years until he retired as a Team Leader. He was also a member of the United Steelworkers Union.

Bill served on the Newark Catholic School Board and coached football at St. Francis Jr. High. He was an avid sports enthusiast and was especially fond of OSU and Notre Dame Athletics. As an Indianapolis 500 fan, Bill attended 49 straight races, only missing the 50 ^th due to a surgery. Bill enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing and boating aboard the "Blue Goose".

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Alice (Alexander) Swank, of the home; his son, John Swank of Troy; grandchildren, Alex and Ryan Swank; great-granddaughter, Alyssa Grace; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann Tanner of San Diego, CA, Marjorie and Joseph Hayes of Queenstown, MD, Betty and Dale Henry of Hitchcock, TX, and Nancy and Glen Griebel of Heath; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clair and Julie Schell of Newark; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Betsy; and his brother, Carl E. Swank Jr.
