Funeral services celebrating the life of Verree Elizabeth McClung, 85, of Newark, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 20, 2022, with Rev. Joyce Wealand as celebrant.  Interment will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 9-11 A.M., Tuesday, prior to the funeral service.

Verree died at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Ohio's Hospice of Central Ohio on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. She was born in Millfield, Ohio on November 8, 1937, to the late Loren C. and Redimpha (Reeves) Russell.

A longtime devoted member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Veree loved her church. She volunteered in many capacities and especially enjoyed working on the Chimes Newsletter.

She retired from Gannett Newspapers, and worked in account receivables for The Newark Advocate for many years. Prior to this, Verree worked at the Southgate Woolworth's for 22 years.

Verree was a homemaker at heart and took great pride in making her house a home. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed cross-stitch, reading, and meeting up with her card club.  She also played the keyboard for many years.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Catherine Gilligan, Mike C. McClung (Rachell Cook), and Sharon (James) Justice; 5 grandchildren, Chad (Kristin) Gilligan, Matthew Gilligan, Brian (Kate) Gilligan, Erin (Jesse) Hart, and Jamie (Josh) Shaw; 8 great-grandchildren (with another on the way), Taylor, Grayson, Hayden, Boston, Marlee, Julissa, Joshua, Jaden,

In addition to her parents, Verree was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis S. McClung; granddaughter, Corie L. McClung; and siblings, Elinor (Duane) Baker and Richard Russell.
