Funeral services celebrating the life of Thomas E. Mentz, 60, of Newark, will be held at Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 10 A.M., Wednesday, December 13, 2023, with Deacon Robert Ghiloni as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark.

Tom died at Licking Memorial Hospital, on Friday, December 8, 2023. He was born in Newark, Ohio on April 11, 1963, to the late Edward and Martha (Graney) Mentz.

A 1981 graduate of Newark Catholic High School, Tom was owner and operator of M&M Pawn and Jewelry Inc., Zanesville. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame football and loved to cheer for the Fighting Irish.

Tom was happiest when spending time with his family, their many trips to the beach, putt-putting, watching classic movies, or enjoying a meal out together.   He grew up with the great bands of the 80's, and shared this love with his family, attending a multitude of concerts together over the years.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 30 years, Kimberley (Mertens) Mentz; children, Montana and Katherine Mentz; siblings, Jean Ritchey, Joan Hutchison, Trish (Ray) Blankenship, Barbara (Joe) Redman, Sharon Schroeder, Kathleen Rucker, and Tim (Dawn) Mentz; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Debbie Mentz, Jean (Ernie) Scott, and Jeff Stires; his beloved canine companion, Thor; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his siblings, Richard Mentz, Bob Mentz, Mary Alice Mentz, Mary Ann Mentz, and Carol Stires.

Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M., Tuesday, December 12, 2023.
