Funeral services celebrating the life of Thomas A. Hoffman, 84, of Newark, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 12 Noon, Friday, December 20, 2024, with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling will be held at the funeral home for 2 hours prior to the service on Friday, with an Elks Service held at 11:45 A.M.
Tom died on Sunday, December 15, 2024. He was born in Mt. Vernon, Ohio on November 10, 1940, to the late Arthur Hoffman and Gladys (Whetsel) Bailey.
A graduate of Columbus North High School, Tom was a longtime parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where he also served as an usher. He was owner and operator of Newark Meat Supply for many years, retiring in 2007. He was member and past president of the Ohio Association of Meat Processors, Newark Elks Lodge 391, Newark Jaycees, and longtime board member of MedBen. Tom was also an avid fan of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
He will be greatly missed by his children, Anne (Kevin) Stoddard, Karen (Richard) Day, and John (Elizabeth) Hoffman; 7 grandchildren, Sarah (Nick) Harper, Emily Stoddard, Anthony (Lina) Day, Alexa (Michael) Liedtke; Hayley Hoffman, Lauren Hoffman, and Caroline Hoffman (Samuel Tucker); and several nieces and nephews. He will also be dearly missed by sister-in-law Barbie (Hoffman) Tootle, Jim Tootle, and sister-in-law Linda Hoffman.
Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Catherine (Oliver) Hoffman in 1999; father, Arthur Hoffman; step-mother, Helen Hoffman; mother, Gladys Bailey; step-father, Burton Bailey; and brothers, John "Jack" Hoffman and Richard "Dick" Hoffman.
