A Mass of Christian Burial for Terry Lee Watson, 80, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, April 16, 2024, with Fr. Mike Gentry as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Terry, a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, died at Chapel Grove Inn, surrounded by the love of his family, on Thursday, April 11, 2024. He was born in Newark, Ohio on February 10, 1944, to the late John F. and Janetta (Bertee) Watson.

A proud 1962 graduate of Licking Valley High School, Terry retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas where he worked in the Air Corp department for many years. He married the love of his life, Carolyn, in 2000. Together they took the grandkids on many adventures. Terry, fondly known as Lumpy by many, was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and participated in several bowling leagues.

Terry was an active father, coaching baseball and sharing his love for the outdoors with Travis. They spent many weekends at the Watson family place fishing on Lake Erie. Later they expanded their fishing to remote fly-in trips to Canada where they ate their fresh catch every evening.  Terry and Travis enjoyed hunting rabbits with the beagles and ventured to Nebraska for a memorable pheasant hunting trip in 2006. Terry loved spending early morning hours in a tree stand waiting for sunrise and the chance at a trophy buck.

Everywhere he went, Terry would find a friend to talk to. He could often be found at the counter of Jolly Pirate Donuts chatting with friends old and new. He loved to sing & dance to Elvis music and enjoyed ice cream any time of the day. Dogs were always by Terry's side, from his skilled hunting dogs, a favorite stray he rescued named Foxy, to Winnie & Pippa who he never denied a treat!

He will be greatly missed by the love of his life, Carolyn (Shell) Watson, whom he married in 2000; son, Travis (Lori) Watson; stepchildren, Jill Kennard and Jerrod Kennard (Taisa Skubiak); grandchildren, Zachary Weisend (fiancé, Samantha Knapp), Madison Weisend, and Matei Kennard; siblings, Dale (Joyce) Watson and Beulah Watson; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 5-8 P.M., Monday, April 15, 2024, with a Vigil Service held at 7:30 P.M.
