Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial for Terry Lee Cooperrider, 80, of Newark, will be held at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, March 15, 2023, with Fr. Mark Ghiloni as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Terry, devoted parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, died at Licking Memorial Hospital, on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. He was born in New Lexington, Ohio on March 30, 1942, to the late Harold Dixon and Geraldine Frances (Mautz) Cooperrider.

Terry was a 1960 graduate of Newark High School and played the tuba in their marching band. He studied engineering at COTC and received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Franklin University. He was employed by Owens Corning for 37 years, followed by 10 years with Tectum until his retirement.

An avid outdoorsman, Terry enjoyed fishing, hunting, and woodworking. He was a member of the Newark Maennerchor, and was a supporter of local theater, holding season tickets to Weathervane and the Licking County Players. Fascinated by genealogy, Terry was a member of the Licking County Genealogical Society and was known as "Coopie" on the memorial website, Find A Grave , to which he often submitted updates.

Terry also had an artistic side which he expressed through photography and jewelry making. He enjoyed gifting his handmade bracelets and keychains to friends and strangers alike.

Affectionately known as Papa to many, Terry will be greatly missed by his daughter, Shawn Marie Cooperrider (fiancé, Randy Paul); son, Patrick (Beth) Cooperrider; 4 grandchildren, Kristen Magers (Susan Tebben), Lindsay Cooperrider (fiancé, Jonah Cunningham), Sarah Decker, and Tanner Cooperrider (fiancé, Lexy Kindred); extended family, Lauren Wright and her daughter, Eliana; brother, Bill Cooperrider; sisters-in-law, Delores (Jerry) Gibson, Sandy (Dan) Backus, Becky (Rod) Smith, Michelle (Todd) Rock, and Becky Sorg; and many nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann (Sorg) Cooperrider; sister-in-law, Patricia (Frank) Rubeck; and brother-in-law, Richard Sorg.

Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 4-7 P.M., Tuesday, March 14, 2023, with a Vigil Service held at 4:00 P.M.
