Calling hours celebrating the life of Stephanie Bakanowicz, 94, of Granville, will be held from 4-7 P.M., Friday, March 3, 2017, at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark. A prayer service will be held at 6:15 PM with Deacon Larry Wilson as celebrant. Stephanie will be laid to rest beside her husband in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Oscoda, Michigan, at a later date.


Stephanie died at Licking Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, February 28, 2017. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 1, 1922 to the late Stephen and Mary Piotrowski.

She was a longtime resident of Oscoda, Michigan and moved to the area in 2013. Stephanie was an active member of the Catholic Council of Women and the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oscoda, and was retired from Northern Trust Bank where she worked for many years as a vault teller.

She is survived by her daughter, Dorene (Wes) Enlow of Heath; many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

Stephanie was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Bakanowicz, in 2002; her siblings, Jean (Peter) Komon, Laure (Walter) Stryczek, Helen (Al) Kusniesz, Lillian (Walter) Przyborski, Arthur (Mary) Piotrowski, Chester Piotrowski, and John Piotrowski.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Licking Memorial Hospital Emergency Room Department and Office of Pastoral Care for the exemplary care and concern that was given.
