A Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley Ann (Sorg) Cooperrider, 78, of Newark, will be held at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 24, 2019, with Fr. Jonathan Wilson as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Shirley, a 50-year parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, died at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus on Sunday, January 20, 2019. She was born in Zanesville, Ohio on July 27, 1940 to the late Earl L. and Gertrude E. (Zwick) Sorg.

Shirley was dedicated to her family and church community and worked as a nurturing babysitter for many years. She enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, cooking, singing in the church choir, and helping the Marian Club prepare food for the funeral luncheons.

Her gentle and kind nature will be greatly missed by her husband of 55 years, Terry Cooperrider; daughter, Shawn Marie Cooperrider; son, Patrick (Beth) Cooperrider; 4 grandchildren, Kristen Magers (Susan Tebben), Lindsay Cooperrider, Sarah Decker, and Tanner Cooperrider; sisters, Delores (Jerry) Gibson, Sandy (Dan) Backus, Becky (Rod) Smith, and Michelle (Todd) Rock; brother-in-law, Bill Cooperrider; sister-in-law, Becky Sorg; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia (Frank) Rubeck; and her brother, Richard Sorg.

Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M., Wednesday, January 23, 2019, where a Vigil Service will be held at 3:30 P.M.
