Funeral services for Shirley Ann Hess, 88, of Newark, will be held at Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 1 P.M., Friday, February 14, 2025, with Fr. Mike Gentry as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.

Shirley, a member of the Catholic faith, died at Arlington Care Center on Saturday, February 8, 2025. She was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts on December 2, 1936, to the late Julian and Doris (Sawyer) Morrill.

A graduate of South High School, Shirley worked for many years as a nurse's aide in the maternity department at the Newark Hospital and Licking Memorial Hospital.

Shirley was an avid BINGO player and made many friends doing so over the years. She enjoyed visiting Scioto Downs and playing the lottery. Shirley adored her grandchildren and was always willing to spend time with them creating countless memories.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Robert (Pam) Hess, Randy (Kacy) Hess, Sherry (Jeff) O'Brien, Rob (Denise) Hess, and Rusty Hess; sisters, Carol (Ted) Geraughty and Joan Cunningham; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by an infant brother; and brother-in-law, Paul Cunningham.
