A funeral Mass celebrating the life of Sharon Lee Wiley, 78, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic, Newark, 12 Noon, Wednesday, December 6, 2023, with Fr. Dave Sizemore as celebrant. Friends and family may call at the church for one hour prior to the service Wednesday.
Sharon, a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, died at her home, surrounded by the love of her family, on Thursday, November 30, 2023. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 27, 1945, to the late James E. and Hertha F. (McGregor) Carter Sr.
For many years, Sharon was a friendly face working at McDonald's Restaurants, Deo Drive and Indian Mound Mall locations, and spent 20 years running the Newark Catholic High School Cafeteria snack bar. She was also an avid volunteer with the Licking Memorial Hospital Twig Gift Shop.
She often traveled with her husband, taking many cruises to see the world, and especially enjoyed learning of her family heritage on a visit to Ireland. She was a supporter of local theater, holding season passes at Weathervane and Licking County Players.
Sharon had a big personality and liked spending time with family and friends celebrating birthdays and life events. Above all, Sharon was devoted to her family and spent countless hours attending their many sporting and extra-curricular events. Her family was a great source of joy and she truly loved them all.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of 62 years, Joseph Wiley; children, Jenny (Gary) Hall, Sharon Thompson, Joe (Jeni) Wiley, and Todd Wiley; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, James E. Carter Jr.; special family friends, Kathy Miceli, Patty Flores, and Sue Weiland; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by her brothers, Ronald and Robert Carter; and sister, Lorraine Judith Carter.
