Calling hours celebrating the life of Sharon Ann Barcus, 78, lifelong resident of Newark, will be held at Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, 5-7 P.M., Wednesday, August 26, 2026, followed by a family led service at 7 P.M. Inurnment will take place privately at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with Fr. Tom Gardner as celebrant.

After a short battle with cancer, Sharon passed away at the Selma Markowitz Center of Hospice of Central Ohio on Monday, August 17, 2026 surrounded by family. She was born in Newark, Ohio on April 10, 1948, to the late Richard and Katherine (Wessinger) Pfeffer.

After graduating from Newark Catholic High School in 1966, Sharon jumped into the workforce at Astlett and Maybold Shoes. After marrying in 1975, she also helped run Don’s business, O’Koons Drugs on the square in downtown Newark. From 1984 until 2025, Sharon was the office Manager of Newark Family Dentistry, first working with Dr. and Dixie Merrill and later transitioning to Dr. Lewis in 1999 when the business was sold. She was a “Jeep girl” who enjoyed shopping for deals, eating out, gardening, home improvement projects, cooking and baking, watching her grandkids play sports, and spending time with her family and friends. She was active with the Red Hatters and in the NCHS Alumni Association.

Sharon is survived by her children, Melissa (Matthew) Hampshire, Christina Barcus, and Laura Barcus (Nicholas McKee); grandchildren, Lucas (Graci), Hannah, Ethan, Damien, and Liam; brother, Joseph (Sally) Pfeffer; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Donald.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Ohio's Hospice Foundation.
