Sebastian John
Gartside
Jun 20, 2006 — Jan 12, 2024
Newark
A Celebration of Life for Sebastian John Gartside, 17, of Newark, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, 3:30-5 P.M., Wednesday, January 17, 2024. All are welcome to attend this celebration of Sebastian's life. A memorial service is being held privately for his family with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant.
Sebastian was born in Columbus, Ohio on June 20, 2006, to Bernadette (Hendricks) Gartside and Steve Gartside, both of Newark, Ohio.
A graduate of St. Francis de Sales Elementary School, Sebastian was a member of the Junior Class at Newark Catholic High School and had just completed the requirements to graduate as a Senior this year with Newark High School.
He was a member of the Newark Catholic Boys Golf Team and liked to play practical jokes, all in favor of making others smile. Like most boys at age 17, Sebastian was ornery in nature and could also be stubborn at times. He was a good friend to others and had a witty sense of humor. He enjoyed playing video games and listening to music, especially Rap, which he often played too loudly while driving around town in his car. He visited his grandma daily and looked forward to their special time together.
Sebastian will be greatly missed by his parents, Bernadette (Hendricks) Gartside and Steve Gartside; brothers, Xavier Joseph Gartside and Maximillian James Gartside; maternal grandmother, Bernadine "Dee" Hendricks; paternal grandparents, Jerry and Carol Gartside; maternal aunts and uncles, Koury Hendricks, Ricky (Linda) Hendricks, and Rod Hendricks; paternal aunts and uncles, Scott (Jean) Gartside, Shelly (Marco) De Pizzol Silvano, and Stacey (John) Smith; many cousins, close friends and classmates.
He was preceded in death his maternal grandfather, Richard D. Hendricks.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Sebastian's name can be made to The Jed Foundation, PO Box 412945, Boston, MA 02241; https://jedfoundation.org/donate/
