Obituary

A Memorial Mass for Sandy Ellen Crowley, 81, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Friday, August 4, 2023, with Rev. JCP Sullivan as celebrant. Immediately following the Mass, calling hours with light refreshments will be held for friends and family in Murphy Hall.

Sandy, a 1960 graduate of Newark High School, died at her home, surrounded by the love of her family, on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. She was born in Newark, Ohio on May 26, 1942, to the late Wayne and Mildred (Wixom) Bonham.

Following high school, Sandy worked as a secretary at Rockwell. She married James Crowley on August 11, 1962, and during his tenure with the Air Force they lived in Texas and Massachusetts, returning home to Newark in 1966.  Sandy was kept busy raising her four children and was an active volunteer and parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and Elementary School. She eventually returned to the work force as an office manager with Weekley Homes, retiring in 2004.

She was an avid gardener and enjoyed flowers. She loved to travel with family and friends, especially the beach trips to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Perhaps one of her most favorite things was dancing the jitterbug with her husband of 61 years.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, James Crowley; her four children, Leslie (Tom) Williams, Mike (Hala) Crowley, Debbie (David)Paxton, and Deanne (John) Seymour; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren, with 2 more on the way; sister, Karen (Jack) Farquhar; sisters-in-law, Jan Simi and Janet Crowley; brother-in-law, George Kaercher; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her sister Joyce (Jerry) Cullison; brother James (Jackie) Bonham; brothers-in-law John "Jack" Simi and John Crowley; and sister-in-law, Julia "Judy" Kaercher.
