Obituary

A Funeral Mass for Rudolph Michael Lopo Jr., 79, of Pataskala, will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 10, 2015 with Msgr. Paul Enke celebrating. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Rudy died at Mt. Carmel East Hospital on Thursday, March 5, 2015. He was born in Queens, NY on August 8, 1935 to the late Rudolph M. Sr. and Ellie (Vilum) Lopo.

Rudy was a United States Navy Veteran and earned a BA in Business from St. John's University in 1963. He worked for Saga Foods and Marriott Food Service and for over 44 years until his retirement. Over the years, Rudy managed the food service contracts for multiple companies and had the opportunity to serve President Reagan. Toward the end of his career he was the food service director over all the Nationwide Insurance Buildings.

Rudy was the first president of the Food Service Executive Association and past president of the Marriott Business Council where he helped to organize their yearly golf outings for benefit of Children's Hospital. He also assisted with the Ohio Food Bank.

He served as the treasurer of the Jefferson Meadows Association where he also helped landscape the entrance and surrounding areas. He was an avid gardener, bowler and golfer.

Rudy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ursula P. (Rauch) Lopo, of the home; his daughters, Karen (Tom) Armstrong of Newark, and Joan (William III) Schoenling of Union, KY; his grandchildren, Hilary, Margaret and Andrew Clark; and his sister Ellen Lopo.

In addition to his parents, Rudy was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Lopo.

Friends and family may call from 4-7 P.M., Monday, March 9, 2015 at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark where a Vigil Service will be held at 4 PM.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Ohio Food Bank or the American Heart Association.
