Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial for Rosemary Walther, 88, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, May 20, 2026, with Fr. Anish Thomas as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark.

Rosemary was born in Newark, Ohio on June 28, 1937, to the late John and Rozella (Papanek) Callahan. She died on Friday, May 15, 2026 and was joyfully reunited with her husband, Frank, whose death she has been grieving since 2007.

A graduate of St. Francis High School and lifelong parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Rosemary was a faithful servant to the parish and school community. She volunteered in a myriad of capacities over the years and became a familiar face within the school while supporting her children, most recently her grandchildren, through their own faith and educational journeys.

Rosemary retired from State Farm Insurance where she worked in auto claims and customer service. Prior, Rosemary worked at Ohio Power and together with her husband, was owner and operator of the Blue Jean Factory Outlet and Martin Heating and Cooling.

Many years ago, Rosemary opened her home and welcomed 3 young children into her heart, eventually adopting the group of siblings. Her family was the most dear and cherished part of her life and why she often commented that she had “lived a great life”. She found such joy in attending anything her children/ grandchildren were a part of and was there for each milestone.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Bonnie Walther, Richard Walther, and David (Debbie) Walther; 9 grandchildren, Heather, Joshua, Maria, Jacob, Stephen, Aden, Adeline, Elliott and Anthony; step-grandchildren; Joshua and Carrah Aldridge; 8 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister-in-law, JoAnn Callahan; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Frank C. Walther; her brother, Tom Callahan; and brother and sister-in-law, John and Shirley Callahan.

Friends and family may call at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 4-7 P.M., Tuesday, May 19, 2026, with a Vigil Service held at 6:30 P.M.
