Funeral services and military honors celebrating the life of Rodney "Gus" L. Howarth, 84, of Hebron, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 11 A.M. Saturday, August 11, 2018, with Deacon Robert Ghiloni as celebrant. A celebratory gathering will follow at the family home.
Gus, a United States Air Force Veteran, died at his home on Friday, August 3, 2018. He was born in Newark, Ohio on September 13, 1933 to the late Charles "Zeke" and Lorna (Wivell) Howarth.
Gus, a 1951 graduate of Newark High School, attended Cornell University and Miami of Ohio for undergraduate studies and received his Law Degree from The Ohio State University. He worked as the Assistant City Solicitor and was partner with Jones, Kibler, Jones Law Firm and was founding partner of the Jones, Norpell, List, Miller, Howarth Law Firm. Gus also taught several courses of real-estate law at OSU Newark.
He was a member of the Licking County and Ohio State Bar Associations, Score Meritor, Newark Rotary Club, Newark Catholic Athletic Association, and was a vestry member of Trinity Episcopal Church
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sarah Alicia "Sally" Howarth; his sons, Craig, Judson (Anne), Nathan (Angie), and Damon Howarth; 5 grandchildren, Hunter, Jack, Amy, Taylor, and Madeline; brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law, Philip (Marjorie) Vogelmeier, Mary Anne (Vern) Johnston, and Jane Ellen (David) Whyde; cousins, Geneva, Delynn, Todd, and Lisa Poff; 6 nieces and nephews; and 9 great nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 4-7 P.M. Friday, August 10, 2018.
The family requests memorials in Gus' name be made to the Newark Catholic Athletic Association, Newark Catholic High School Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
