Obituary

A Funeral Mass for Rodger Owen Hull, 83, of Newark, will be held at St. Leonard Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Monday, January 19, 2015 with Fr. William Hritsko as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Rodger, a United States Navy Veteran, died at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio on Thursday, January 15, 2015. He was born in Carrollton, Ohio on September 20, 1931 to the late Fred and Harriett (Ship) Hull.

Rodger was the secretary/treasurer for Newark Asphalt for many years, as well as owner and operator of Newark Transfer until his retirement in 1998. Rodger also worked as an auctioneer and was a delivery driver for Kimel's Florist in his retirement.

Rodger was a parishioner of St. Leonard Catholic Church and member of the Knights of Columbus St. Leonard Council 12641. He was also a member of the Newark Elks Lodge, Newark Jaycees, American Legion, Lions Club, and the Newark Catholic Athletic Association. Over the years, Rodger has participated in many community activities, including DARE and Boy Scouts of America. As an avid golfer, Rodger was a member of Moundbuilders Country Club and attended the Big Name Open held in Florida.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carmen (Thompson) Hull, of the home; his children, Lisa (Richard) Gebhart, Sally (John) Balser, all of Newark, Jon (Connie) Hull of Bolivar, Ann (Robert) Wehrle of Dublin, and Mary Hull of Newark; his daughter-in-law, Cathy (Tim) Austin of Thornville; his grandchildren, Nicholas (Chrissy) Gebhart, Sarah Hull (Dave Allen-Williams), Ashley Balser, Kellyn (Andrew) Broderick, Jason (Andrea) Balser, Andrew Hull, Elizabeth Balser, Carley Hull, Kendyl Hull and Kelly Hull; 8 great-grandchildren; his sister, Karen Heald of Texas; sister-in-law Jo Ann Hull of Newark; and his faithful furry companions, Mya and Webster.

In addition to his parents, Rodger was preceded in death by his son, Michael Hull; his brother, David Hull; and his brother-in-law, Gene Heald.

Friends and family may call from 2-5 P.M., Sunday, January 18, 2015 at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark. The Knights of Columbus will hold a Rosary Service at 4:30 P.M. and the Newark Elks will conduct a service at 5 P.M. Sunday.
