Robert "BO" Joseph Essig, 70, of Newark, died at his home on Sunday, July 2, 2023. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on February 24, 1953, to the late Robert Riley and Joan Regina (Bringardner) Essig.
He attended St. Charles Preparatory School and was a graduate of Bexley High School. Following, Bo served with the United States Navy for over 20 years and was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
BO collected model cars and enjoyed gardening, fishing, and camping. Affectionately known as "Bo Wolf", he was intrigued by the mystical realm, liked to study Native American Culture, and loved spending his time listening and dancing to music. He was also a motorcycle enthusiast and worked as a welder with the former Sinners & Saints Cycle Shop.
He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Seana (Shane) Ramirez and Jasmine Essig; grandchildren, Tyler Colwell, Andy Colwell, and Rhiannon Miller; siblings, Marjorie (Scott) Drum, Mark (Martha) Essig, Greg (Lori) Essig, Lee Essig Woolever, and Mary Jo (Sean) Cull; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, BO was preceded in death by his grandson, Xander Harkleroad; brother, Eric Essig; and brother-in-law, Roy Woolever.
Calling hours celebrating the life of BO will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 11-12 Noon, Saturday, July 22, 2023. The Licking County Veterans Alliance will hold military honors at 12 Noon, followed by memorial tributes shared by family and friends.
Immediately following services at the funeral home, a Celebration of Life for BO will be held at 568 Mt. Vernon Road, Newark.
