Robert "Bob" Michael Hire, 78, of New Albany, died at his home on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. He was born in Lima, Ohio on August 6, 1945, to the late Robert B. and Freida (Roush) Hire.

Bob was a graduate of Lima Senior High School where he held many athletic records in swimming and track. He retired in 2003 from Dana Corporation following 30 years of service and was president of UAW Local 1765.

As an avid golfer, Bob earned many league trophies. However, his greatest joy was watching his beloved grandchildren at their many events.

He was a generous and loving husband, father and devoted grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Kathleen (Winget) Hire; daughters, Melissa (Brandon) Yonker, Kimberly (Jim) Skelly, and Kellie (Ken Warden); five grandchildren who were the loves of his life, Kobe, Kaedyn, and Alayna Yonker, and Spencer and Clay Skelly; brothers, Richard (Ellen) Hire and William (Brenda) Hire; sisters, Sharon Fess and Mary Lou Delong; sister-in-law, Sara Hire; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, James Hire; and brother-in-law, Bob Delong.

Calling hours will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 4-5:30 P.M., Wednesday, September 20, 2023, with a Vigil Prayer Service led by Fr. David Sizemore at 5:30 P.M.
