A Mass of Christian Burial for Rita Johns Carter, 87 of Newark, will be held at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Friday, April 19, 2024, with Fr. Mike Gentry as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Rita, a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church, died at SharonBrooke Assisted Living Residence on Saturday, April 13, 2024. She was born in Bellaire, Ohio on March 9, 1937, to the late Jesse Camelo and Solina (Susi) Camelo Plummer.

A 1954 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High Schoo1, Rita retired at age 59 from Banc Ohio, Church Street location. She was a member of the VFW, Sons of Italy Rinascimento Lodge, Newark Moose, and former member of the Newark Druids and Eagles. Rita also participated in the same card club for over 50 years.

She will be greatly missed by her sons, Paul (JoEllen) Johns, Robert "Jerry" (Angela) Johns, and Anthony Johns; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda Camelo and Christine (Scott) Reid; sister-in-law, Patricia Plummer; stepbrother, Bruce Plummer; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Johns; second husband, Ernie Carter; and infant daughter, Jacqueline Marie Johns.

Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 5-7 P.M., Thursday, April 18, 2024, with a Sons of Italy Service held at 6:30 P.M. immediately followed by a Vigil Service.
