Richard "Dick" W.  Kesterson, Sr. passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 31, at home with his wife Kathy at his side.

He was born in Parkersburg, WV on January 29 , 1945, to the late Phillip and Katherine Kesterson. He was the youngest of their five children.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, August 4, 2021.  Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.  Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, 4-7 P.M., Tuesday, August 3, 2021, with a Vigil Service held at 6:30 P.M.

Dick will be remembered as the loving and caring husband of 53 yrs to his dear wife Kathy, as well as being an especially proud father of their only child Richard "Rick" W. Kesterson, Jr,, whom he loved deeply.

Dick was a barber by trade, a very talented one.  He began his career at Southgate Barber in 1976.   He opened his own shop in 1985 and provided services there until health forced him to retire and sell the shop

In his spare time, he owned and operated Union Street Auto for 27 years, with his son's help. He was known by many as a straight-forward, yet compassionate business man.  He enabled many folks the opportunity to own a car who may not have been able otherwise, sometimes at his own expense.  He worked hard on the vehicles he sold to provide reliable "good-looking" vehicles.  Whenever his garage door was open, you could always find a buddy or two stopping in to share a cold beer and lots of "shop" talk.

Dick will also be remembered as a generous and giving man.  He gave generously to little Catholic churches he and Kathy came upon throughout their travels "on the road".  He was always offering something to someone, if he thought they might be able to use it.

Dick was a long-time member of the Moose Lodge, Druids Lodge and the Eagles.

His strong, loving presence will be deeply missed by his wife, Kathy and by his son Rick and his life-partner Tami Barrett.

He will be greatly missed by his sister-in-law and her husband, Patty and Jack Poppe; sister-in-law, Rosa Jane Helfer; nieces and nephews, John and Teresa Kesterson, Vicky Kesterson Mansoor, Gina Kesterson, Ginny and Don Hobbs, Joni and Phil Stanton, Jill Graf, Doug and Diane Gordon, Bill and Nina Helfer, Jim and Rosalie Gordon, Mike and Lindsey Helfer, Theresa and Barney Smith, Kathy and Dan Longstreth and Jeri Helfer, as well as many, many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

He will be profoundly missed by his dear friends and their wives, Mike and Sue Markely and Dave and Roberta Winter.

Along with his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Elmer and Genevieve Helfer; his brothers, Bob, Bill and Jim; his sister, Frances; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rose and Pat Gordon; brothers-in-law, Fred and Dan Helfer; and sister-in-law Eileen Helfer.
