A Funeral Mass for Richard Allen Spellman, 76, of Newark, will be held at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Friday, March 31, 2017 with Fr. Jonathan Wilson as celebrant. Inurnment will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Richard, a parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, died at the Heath Nursing Care Center on Monday, March 27, 2017. He was born in Coshocton, Ohio on June 18, 1940 to the late Frank H. and Madeline Eva (Everhart) Spellman.
Richard was a 1958 graduate of Newark High School and was United States Marine Corps Veteran. He was retired from Continental Baking Company where he worked in delivery for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Jane (Retallick) Spellman; his two children, Sherry (Mark) George and Brian (Julie) Spellman, his five grandchildren, Lyndsee, Braeden, Christian, Grant, and Gabe; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his grandson, Brock Allen Spellman; his sisters, Mel and Betty; and half brother, Red.
