Funeral services for Richard F. Sachs, 91, of Newark, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 3:00 P.M., Friday, March 14, 2014 with Rev. Mr. John Barbour officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark, with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.


Richard, a lifelong parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, died at Licking Memorial Hospital on Saturday, March 8, 2014. He was born in Newark, Ohio on December 5, 1922 to the late Willis F. and Helen (Brennan) Sachs.


Mr. Sachs was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School and Ohio University. A civil engineer, he retired in 1985 from the Ohio Department of Transportation. He served in World War II in the Pacific Theater as a member of the 534th Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment. Richard was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Newark Council 721.

He is survived by his son, Thomas F. Sachs of Newark; his daughter, Kathleen M. Crawford of Farmington Hills, Michigan; special cousins Frances Heimerl and John and Penny Murphy, all of Newark; nieces and nephews, Thomas and Ruth Fetter, of Granville, Steven and Nancy Fetter, of Henryville, Pennsylvania, and Grace Fetter, of Newark.


In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife Dolores (Moore) Sachs; his sisters and brother-in-law, Helen Josephine Sachs, and Mary Gertrude and Raymond Fetter.


Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 12 Noon - 3 P.M. on Friday, March 14, 2014 prior to the funeral service.
