Richard Lee Allen, born in Sidney, Ohio, April 10, 1951, to the late Harry and Rachel (Douglas) Allen, passed away at Hospice of Central Ohio on July 12, 2024, after extended complications from heart surgery. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Theresa; son, Christopher (Kristina Ilioski); grandchildren, Henry and Harper; brother Gary Allen (Vicki), and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Allen.
Richard graduated from Sylvania High School in Sylvania, OH in 1969. He attended Bowling Green State University where he received a B.S. in Education, specializing in technology education. Starting in 1973, Richard began teaching in the Granville Exempted Village Schools as the middle school industrial arts teacher. He remained a dedicated teacher and staff member at the middle school until his retirement in 2008.
Richard enjoyed his post-retirement years building out his own workshop at home where he worked on all types of projects. From woodworking projects with his grandkids, to 3D printing, and new technology gadgets his passion for technology and solving problems remained steadfast. He was a member of the ECOTUC/Licking County Computer Club, and a member of the St Edward's Church Knights of Columbus.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 11 A.M., Wednesday, July 17, 2024, with Msgr. Paul Enke as celebrant. Friends and family may call at the funeral home, 4-7 P.M., Tuesday, July 16, 2024, and from 10:00-11 A.M., Wednesday, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, Richard and his family ask you to thoughtfully consider donating to the Granville Schools Sara Danford Memorial Scholarship Fund, C/O Dave Stewart, 1075 Joann Court, Heath, OH 43056; or Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, OH 43055.
