Funeral services celebrating the life of Rhoena Ruth Scaffide, 81, of Newark, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 1 P.M., Friday, August 4, 2023, with Pastor Jeff Smith as celebrant. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home from 5-7 P.M., Thursday, August 3, 2023, and from 12 Noon-1 P.M., Friday, prior to the service. Inurnment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
Rhoena died at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Sunday, July 30, 2023. She was born in Newark, Ohio on November 25, 1941, to the late Wayne and Ruth (Hollar) Murphy.
She attended Licking Valley High School and worked for over 25 years at Newark Health Care where she was a dietary aide and cook. She had also worked at Walmart and the Licking County Humane Society.
Rhoena loved to dance to the "oldies" and was a faithful follower of Johnny Pond and The Diamond Brothers and The Alexander's . She held many close friends and enjoyed going to the movie theater with them on a weekly basis. She was a former square dancer, member of several area bowling leagues, and liked to take pictures of her family and friends.
Rhoena spent countless hours dedicated to the rescue and fostering of cats. She volunteered with the Licking County Humane Society, Star's Cat Connection, and was especially devoted to the works of Dr. Laura Miller and the Nomad Spay and Neuter Clinic.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Cathy McNabb and Darla Scaffide (Ron Stanbery); stepdaughter, Eleanor "Ellie" Hedges; 10 grandchildren, Chris Scaffide, Danny Scaffide Jr., Alexis McNabb, Brycen Carroll, RD Stanbery, Peter Stanbery, Averi (Jacob) Sweeney, Wesley Jarrell, Debbie Wilkinson, and Tami Wilkinson; 8 great-grandchildren, Lennox, Wesley, Miko Storm, Angel, Ashley, Tiki, Toshia, and Dallas; her brother, Roland (Sue) Murphy; and many dear nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Rhoena was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Scaffide; son, Robert "Bobb" Holtz; stepsons, Charles E. Scaffide and Danny (Pearl) Scaffide; stepdaughter, Mary Ellen Williams; step-son-in-law, Jan Hedges; and her sister-in-law and close friend, Meriam Scaffide.
