Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial for Ruth Maxine Behr, 91, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 11 A.M., Wednesday, February 1, 2023, with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant. Interment will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery, Lexington, Ohio, 11 A.M., Thursday, February 2, 2023 with Fr. Kevin Moebius as celebrant.

Maxine died at the home of her daughter, where she had been staying for the last several months, on Wednesday, January 25, 2023. She was born in Sydney, Ohio on April 14, 1931, to the late Raymond Henry and Cora Olive (Baker) Davis.

Devoted to her Catholic faith, Maxine was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister, lector, greeter, and served with the Ministry of Comfort. Prior to living in Newark, Maxine was a founding parishioner at Resurrection Parish, Lexington, where she was also instrumental in coordinating the Appalachian Mountain Missions.

Maxine held many roles over her lifetime, but the term "caregiver" seems most fitting. She was a former Cub Scout Leader, Girl Scout Leader, High School Cheerleader Advisor, and High School Attendance Officer. She was a coordinator with the International Cultural Exchange Program and from 1969-1982 was host to 17 foreign exchange students from various countries.

She had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. She enjoyed hiking, bowling, riding in hot air balloons, and was a lighthouse fanatic.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Michael Behr, Alice (David) Hawk, Ruth (Ed) Bohling, Dianna (Frank) Boeshart, Tina (Mike) Wirtz, Timothy Behr, Judith (Gary) Bajzatt, and Mark (Tammy) Behr; foster son, Christopher (Nanaho) Burkhart; step-children, David Behr, Debra Ann White, Rose Thomas, Lisa Gentry, Barbara Wadriski; 27 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; brother, C. Wayne (Marilyn) Davis; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerome A. Behr; second husband, David J. Behr; grand-daughter, Tonya Hawk; daughter-in-law, Coleen Behr; and 7 siblings.
