Funeral services for Philip J. Shonebarger, 72, of Newark, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 20, 2014, with Rev. JCP Sullivan, Parish Priest as celebrant.

Phil, a member of the Catholic faith, died at the Ohio State University Medical Center on Monday, December 15, 2014. He was born in Newark, Ohio on September 2, 1942 to the late Francis and Louise (Hickey) Shonebarger.

Phil, a 1960 graduate of Newark Catholic High School, was retired from State Farm Insurance where he worked as a supervisor for many years. He was an avid fan of high school athletics and enjoyed supporting the local sports teams, especially Newark Catholic. Phil enjoyed golfing, spending time with his family, and uplifting the spirits of everyone he met.

Phil is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Eric and Stephanie Shonebarger of Newark, and Brian Shonebarger of Florida, and their mother, Constance Moran; his 2 granddaughters, Malena and Mirra Shonebarger; his longtime companion, Barb Braddock of Newark, and her daughters, Jayme and Kim; his siblings, Thomas (Cheryl) Shonebarger of Delaware, Dennis (Patsy) Shonebarger of Columbus, Marian Rosholm of Newark, David (Teresa) Shonebarger of Findlay, Beth Trost of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Holly Mason of Newark, and Maureen Shonebarger of Gahanna; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M, Friday, December 19, 2014.
