A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Michael Joseph Fitzpatrick, 81, of Newark, will be held at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 11:00 A.M., Thursday, January 19, 2023 with Fr. Mark Ghiloni as celebrant. Friends and family may call at the Church from 9:30-11 A.M., Thursday, prior to the service. Immediately following the Mass, interment will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Mike, a parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, passed away at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on Sunday, January 15, 2023. He was born in Newark, Ohio on April 14, 1941, to the late William J. and Frances (Regan) Fitzpatrick Sr.

He was a 1959 graduate of Hebron High School and a United States Army Veteran, serving from 1963-1965. Following his time in the military, Mike worked as a patrol officer and detective with the City of Newark Police Department, retiring in 1992 after 25 years of service. In retirement, Mike worked in the pro shop of the Eaglesticks Golf Club and in the security department of Harry & David.

Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who deeply cared for his family. His white hair was distinguishable in a crowd, as were his blue eyes and smile. He took pride in his appearance and embraced bright colors as part of his personality.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 40 years, Lynnette (Thagard) Fitzpatrick; his children, Michelle Gregory, Leslie Flowers, Summer Flowers, and Bridget (Zeb) Fouty; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, sisters, Rosann Boure, Kathleen Litten and Colleen (Don) Richards.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his son, Michael W. Fitzpatrick; daughter, Karrie Dawn Fitzpatrick; granddaughter, Corie Linn McClung; brother, William J. Fitzpatrick Jr.; son-in-law, Cecil Gregory; brothers-in-law, Alden Boure and Tom Litten; and nephew, Shawn W. Rey.
