Obituary

Matthew Michael Sullivan, 47, of Newark, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022.  He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 5, 1974, to Terrance and Christine Sullivan (nee Belovich).

A beloved and adoring father, Matt is survived by his boys, Connor Michael and Declan Allen Sullivan.  Matt loved to take his boys hiking, camping and fishing.  Times with his boys were his happiest.

Matt was the oldest and cherished brother of Mary Sullivan, Patrick (Kelly) Sullivan and Katie (Paul) Murphy.  He will always be loved and remembered by his nephews and nieces, Jacob, Brogan, Avery, Patrick, Gwen and Quinn.

Matt, a graduate of Bishop Rosecrans High School and the Scripts School for Journalism at Ohio University, began his career in high school with the Zanesville Times Recorder as a photographer covering local authorities, community events, and basic humanity.  He had an eye that brought out human emotions and the human spirit.  He went on to excel in the national arena as a sports photographer covering numerous golf, football, baseball, and Olympic events.  Through his kindness and humor, he developed many lasting relationships with his colleagues, friends, and the subjects of his lens.  His images and the love of his family and friends will continue to live on.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Matt will be held in Swasey Chapel of Denison University, 11 A.M., Saturday, February 26, 2022, with Chaplain Corey Campbell as celebrant.  Calling hours will be held in Swasey Chapel from 9-11 A.M., prior to the funeral service.

The family requests memorial donations in Matt's honor be made to the Bishop Rosecrans High School Football Team, c/o Coach Chris Zemba at 3165 Ellerman Road, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
