A Funeral Mass for Matthew James Reed, 45, of Blacklick, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 11:30 A.M., Saturday, November 8, 2014, with Rev. Leo Connolly, Franklin County Sheriff's Chaplain, as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark.

Matt died at his home with his family by his side on Sunday, November 2, 2014. He was born in Newark, Ohio on December 6, 1968 to James Michael Reed of Columbus, and Mary (Spencer) Reed of Union City, Tennessee.

Following his 1987 graduation from Newark Catholic High School, Matt attended Central Ohio Technical College and earned a degree in Criminal Justice. He worked for a short time in hospital security at The Ohio State University Medical Center, and was currently working as a Detective with the Franklin County Sheriffs Department where he was employed for 23 years.

Over the years Matt taught criminal justice courses at several of the area colleges, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Matt was very active with the Boy Scouts of America and was a model rocket enthusiast. He was a devoted husband, father, and son.

In addition to his parents, Matt is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Lisa (Tigner) Reed, of the home; his children, Morgan Christine Reed and Mark Paul Reed, both of the home; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jennifer and Shane Corbin of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Michelle and Tolue Jackson of Chicago, Illinois; his nieces and nephews, Brenna, Cierra, Wade, Wesley, Keaton, and Courtney; great-nephew Tyson; aunts and uncles, James and Barbara Spencer, Sr. Carol Ann Spencer, Norma J. Hyde, Karen and Dean Gross, and Richard P. Reed; his father-in-law, Joe Tigner; sisters-in-law, Debbie Bouse and Susan Tigner; and many cousins.

Matt was preceded in death by his infant twin brother, Mark Paul Reed; his uncle, Charles William Spencer; his brother-in-law, Robert Tigner; and his mother-in-law, Carol (Askew) Tigner.

Friends and family may call from 4-8 P.M., Friday, November 7, 2014 at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, where the Fraternal Order of Police will conduct a service at 4P.M., and a Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 P.M.
