Funeral services celebrating the life of Mary Bernadette (Swank) Reid, 58, of Groveport will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 7 P.M., Wednesday, May 22, 2024, with Pastor Jeff Smith as celebrant. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 5-7 P.M., prior to the service. Private inurnment will be held in St. Jospeh Catholic Cemetery, Newark, with Fr. Mike Gentry as celebrant.
Mary died at her home in Groveport on Friday, May 10, 2024. She was born in Newark, Ohio on October 22, 1965, to Lucinda (Martin) Ellis of Heath and the late Carl Edward Swank Sr.
A 1984 graduate of Newark Catholic High School, Mary received her undergraduate degree in education from The Ohio State University, her Assoc. of Nursing Degree from COTC, and her BS in Nursing from Ohio University where she had also taken several courses towards her Master of Nursing.
Mary devoted her life to the care and concern of the many patients she tended to while working as a licensed RN for Licking Memorial Health Systems. Over her career with LMH, Mary served in multiple capacities that included her time as Floor Nurse, Floor Manager, SANE Nurse, Director of Surgery and the Director of Home Health. In addition, she was a member of the Ohio Organization of Nurse Executives and the Association of Peri-Operative Nurses.
Within her community, Mary was a member of the Welsh Hills School Board, Board of Licking County Coalition for Housing, various committees within United Way, and as a member of the first women's ice hockey team in Newark, she also served on the Newark Ice Hockey Association.
In addition to her mother, Mary is survived by her sister, Carla (Todd) Smith; sister-in-law, Jeannie Swank; beloved niece and nephews, Hunter and Austin Smith, and Corey (Kate) Swank; great niece, Marlee; companion, Troy Tignanelli and his son, Anthony (Terri) Tignanelli; step-siblings, Tiffany (Jack) Adkins, Dana Ellis; step nieces and nephews, Jake Adkins, Hayley Adkins, Taylor Ellis, Sydney Ellis; and many cousins, colleagues and lifelong friends, especially Robert "Bob" Wilson.
In addition to her father, Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Carl Swank Jr.
