Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Mary Jane Schell will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:00 A.M. Thursday, October 7, 2021, with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant and Rev. G Michael Gribble as concelebrant.  Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark.  The funeral mass will be livestreamed on the St. Francis de Sales YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/stfadmin

Mary Jane died at Licking Memorial Hospital on Saturday, October 2, 2021.  She was born in Newark, Ohio on June 16, 1946, to the late Frederick A. and Edna M. (Wahl) Davis.

Mary Jane was a 1965 graduate of Newark Catholic High School and longtime parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.  She was a faithful volunteer at both St. Francis Elementary and Newark Catholic High School, and as a doting Nana, loved attending the many athletic events of her grandchildren.  Mary Jane was also an avid gardener and enjoyed spoiling her beloved pets.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Matthew (Kristie) Schell, Heather (John) Rathbone, and Heidi (Shawn) Edwards; grandchildren, Ethan and Sullivan Schell, Elizabeth, Sydnie, Ellie, and Harrison Edwards; and Keith and Andrew Rathbone; sister, Regina (Kenneth) Guy; brother, Robert L. Davis; sister-in-law, Anneliese Davis; her many in-laws, Clair (Julie) Schell, Jane Schell; Barb Schell, Charles (Gail) Schell, Doug Heffley; Mark Schell (Lynette White), Monica Stell, Stephen (Susie) Schell, Anne Schell, and Mike Schell; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Gregory Schell; infant brother, Kenneth Davis; siblings, William J. (Louise) Davis, Patricia Rowley, and Richard Davis; brothers-in-law, David Schell and Daniel Schell; and sisters-in-law, Barbara Heffley and Cathy Schell.

Friends and family may call at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 4-7 P.M., Wednesday, October 6, 2021, with a Vigil Service held at 6:30 P.M.

The family requests that memorials in Mary Jane's name be made to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 40 Granville Street, Newark, Ohio 43055; or the Newark Catholic High School Foundation, 1 Green Wave Drive, Newark, Ohio 43055.
