A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Natalie Oder, 86, of Newark, will be held at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, May 6, 2025, with Fr. Mark Ghiloni as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark.
Mary, a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church, died at Altercare Newark North on Friday, May 2, 2025. She was born in Newark, Ohio on February 20, 1939, to the Paul R. and Helen S. (Sforza) Dase.
Mary attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary and was a 1957 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School. She was very devoted to her Catholic faith and had attended St. Francis de Sales Church and was a Women of St. Francis.
She made many lifelong friends selling Avon and always enjoyed visiting with her classmates from school. Mary was a strong mother and supported her children's many school and athletic events. She volunteered in the school cafeterias, was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, and worked countless hours of Bingo at Newark Catholic High School.
She will be greatly missed by her five sons, James (Denise) Oder, John (Barbara Sue) Oder, Joseph (Vickie) Oder, Jeffrey (Ronda) Oder, and Jared (Tanya) Oder; her daughter, Natalie (Wayne) Hietala; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; her sisters, Angela (Dr. Frank) Westmeyer and Elizabeth (Charles) Santarelli; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Oder; and brothers, Paul G. Dase and Jim A. Dase.
Calling hours will be held at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark Ohio, 4-7 P.M., Monday, May 5, 2025, with a Vigil Service held at 6:30 P.M.
