A Mass of Christian Burial for Marla K. Gartner, 84, of Heath, will be held at The Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Friday, December 6, 2024, with Fr. Anthony Lonzo as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark.
Marla, a parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, died at her home, surrounded by the love of her family, on Tuesday evening, December 3, 2024. She was born in Ashland, Ohio on November 30, 1940, to the late Lawrence and Pauline (Murphy) Cline.
A 1959 graduate of Newark High School, Marla received her Bachelors in Education from Ohio University and her Masters in Education from The Ohio State University. She taught locally for 27 years and was the intervention specialist at Roosevelt School for 22 years.
She was a former parishioner of St. Leonard Church and member of their Women's Guild. She was also a member of the Ohio Education Association and the Sons of Italy Rinascimento Lodge.
Marla always carried a smile on her face and her bubbly personality was a joy to experience. She could be ornery and a bit spunky, but her generous and caring nature were always sincere. She adored her family and especially loved spending time with each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In recent years, Marla spent countless hours making loop blankets to share with family, friends, and whomever may need a bit of comfort.
She will be greatly missed by her children; Ganene Marie (Joe, dec.) Sutliff, Ganelle Annette (Mark) Baker, Gianna Rene (Mike) Cone, and Gloria Lee (John) Boeckl, and Leonardo Anthony "Nino" (Kirsten) Gartner; 10 grandchildren, Brooke (Benito) Urbina, Marcus (Kalee) Baker, Kayelin Krempel, Kelly (Carrie) Cain, Blake Baker, Adam and Nick Cone, Eva, Johann, and Lily Boeckl; 4 great-grandchildren, Alex, Gabriel, Emerson, and Mark; nieces and nephews; dear friend, Sandy Graft; and many friends within the Chapel Grove Community.
In addition to her parents, Marla was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Gartner; son-in-law, Joe Sutliff; and sisters, Laureen Keller and Sandra (Clyde) Trumbull.
Calling hours will be held at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark Ohio, 4-7 P.M., Thursday, December 5, 2024, with a Vigil Service held at 6:30 P.M.
