Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial for Marjorie Jane Burger, 92, of Newark, will be held at The Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Thursday, July 25, 2024, with Fr. Anthony Lonzo as celebrant and Fr. Timothy Hayes as concelebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Marge, a 1949 graduate of St. Wendelin High School, died at Licking Memorial Hospital on Monday, July 22, 2024. She was born in Fostoria, Ohio on October 3, 1931, to the late Harry L. and Sophia S. (Brickner) Good.

Marge married her husband, John, on May 16, 1953. They moved to the Granville area and purchased Abbott's Shoe Store in 1958, operating for 30 years. They purchased the current family home on Locust Street in 1960.

A longtime parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, and former member of St. Francis de Sales, Marge was greatly devoted to her Catholic faith. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Marian Club, Serra Club, founding member of the Blessed Sacrament Bereavement Committee and BirthRight (Heartbeats), and was instrumental in bringing the Divine Mercy to Blessed Sacrament. She was also a longtime member of the PIME Guilds, delivered Meals on Wheels, and was a charter member of Old Towne West.

She cherished her family and will be greatly missed by her children, Jane Burger (Bruce), James (Lisa) Burger, Joseph (Kim) Burger, Michael Burger, Richard Burger, Therese Butz, and Anne Burger; grandchildren, Andrew Burger, Christine (Adam) Cohen, Anthony Burger, Nicholas (Ashley) Pierce-Burger, Dakota Burger, Cassidy (Kyle) Taylor, and Jonathan Delaney; great-granddaughter, Addison Cohen' and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Marge was preceded in death by her husband, John Albert Burger; infant daughter, Mary Therese Burger; siblings, Harry "Jim" (Millie) Good and Lillian (Howard) Smith; and son-in-law, Don Butz.

Calling hours will be held at the Reed Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark Ohio, 3-7 P.M., Wednesday, July 24, 2024, with a Vigil Service held at 6:30 P.M.

Memorials in Marge's name can be name be made to Blessed Sacrament Elementary School.
