A Mass of Christian Burial for Maria Myers, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10 A.M., Saturday, September 7, 2024, with Father PeterClaver Kasasa Kiviiri as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark.

Maria died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 99 ¾, happy not to reach 100 as she stated that was too old. She was born in Pontypridd, Wales, on January 11, 1925, to the late Timothy Joseph and Margaret (Murphy) O'Sullivan.

Maria met her blue-eyed American soldier at a dance during WWII and together they vowed to create a better future. She was a beautiful homemaker that valued the importance of education and volunteered with the Newark Public Library and CTEC as an advocate and teacher with adult literacy programs and GED Studies.

A parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Maria was a member of the Women of St. Francis and volunteered with Generations and cleaning the church. She was a devout Catholic who felt all problems could be resolved by attending mass and found great peace in prayer, even when close to death.

She was also a member of the Licking County Aging Program, the lifelong Gallon Club with American Red Cross, delivered meals on wheels, and was an advisor with the PNB Freedom Years helping to plan their trips.

Maria was filled with uplifting positivity that was balanced by her no-nonsense attitude. She was happiest with her nose buried in a book enjoying a cup of tea.

She will be greatly missed by her 4 children, Bernard E. Myers, Margaret Alice (Gregory) Stevens, Mary (Gerald) Glaser, and Ruth Ann Myers (Scot Lint); 10 grandchildren, Buddy, Marissa, Daniel, Cade, Clay (Casie), Eric (Jenelle), Kyle, Robert, Ari, and Myranda (Dan); 7 great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Kevin, Remy, Abram, Emerson, Juniper, and Reese.

In addition to her parents, Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Myers; and brothers, Joseph O'Sullivan and Bernard D. (Julia) O'Sullivan.

Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 4-6 P.M., Friday, September 6, 2024, with a Vigil Service held at 6:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial in Maria's name can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank, Adult Literacy programs, or offered in prayer by attending mass.
