Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret C. Cahill, 94, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 19, 2024, with Fr. Mike Gentry as celebrant. Friends and family are invited to visit at the church for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery will be held at a later date.

Margaret, a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, passed peacefully at her home on Monday, February 12, 2024.  She was born in Saratoga Springs, New York on December 28, 1929, to the late James A. and Margaret (Whalen) Cogan.

A graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, Margaret received her RN Degree from the St. Peters Hospital School of Nursing. She began her nursing career in Albany, N.Y. where she served as a surgical nurse in the thoracic department. Taking some time to raise her family, Margaret returned to nursing locally as a private practice nurse and eventually retired from the Licking Memorial Hospital Surgical Department.

Margaret was an avid reader and especially enjoyed mysteries. She traveled the world extensively with her late husband, and together they visited all 50 states and Canada, much of this while in their own R.V. She played bridge until her early 90's, enjoyed the beauty of flowers in her home, and visiting with her neighbors while relaxing on her back porch watching the many birds that visited her yard.

She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Margaret Jackson, Catherine (Jim) Pintz, Maureen (Brookes) Campen, and Sharon Cardreon; honorary "Cahill Girl", Bev King; grandchildren, Natalie (Ralph) Morrison, Kevin Pintz, Nicole (Matt) Tousignant, Elizabeth (Daniel) Kelly, David T. Jackson, and Jessica (Mark) Bowman; great-grandchildren, Katie Davis, Aidan Maad, Alexi Tousignant, Henry Kelly, Grant Kelly, Hannah Jackson, Hayley Jackson, and Josephine Bowman; sister, Elaine Carbonneau; sisters-in-law, Carole Cogan and Catherine Murphy; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Cahill; granddaughter, Jennifer Pintz; son-in-law, David Jackson; brother, James Cogan; brothers-in-law John Carbonneau and Garrett Murphy.

The family of Margaret would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Central Ohio, First Light Home Care, and Dr. Fairbanks, for their continued care. Without their dedication it would not have been possible to honor Margaret's wish to remain in the comforts of her own home.
