Marcella Ann
Hammond
Mar 27, 1936 — Dec 20, 2025
Newark
A Mass of Christian Burial for Marcella Ann Hammond, 89, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Monday, December 29, 2025, with Father Mike Gentry as celebrant. Inurnment will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
Marcella passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio. She was born in Zanesville, Ohio, on March 27, 1936, to the late Arthur and Eleanor (Noll) Kissick. She attended Lash High School in Zanesville.
Marcella was a natural caregiver and a steady source of comfort. She devoted herself not only to her own family but also to her community. Deeply involved in her church, her faith guided how she lived and served others. She taught Sunday School (CCD) at St. Francis for 22 years, sharing her faith with patience, kindness, and a gentle heart. She was also a member of the parish Bereavement Team and Women's Club, served as a team leader for the Ministry of Comfort, and generously dedicated her time to St. Vincent de Paul as treasurer, while also making home visits to those in need.
She enjoyed simple, meaningful pleasures—cooking meals that brought everyone together, reading a good book, and getting outside for her daily walks. She was an active member of the YMCA, where she valued staying healthy and connecting with others. A passionate sports fan, she rarely missed a game and loved cheering on her favorite teams.
She will be remembered for her warmth, her humility, and the deep love she showed to all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished so dearly.
In addition to her parents, Marcella was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Russell Wade Hammond; her daughter, Holly Mae Hammond; and her brother, Bernie Kissick. She will be greatly missed by her children, Steve (Cindy) Hammond, Daniel Hammond, Julia (Doug) Mann, Bernard (Karen) Hammond, Damian (Karen) Hammond, and Amy (Patrick) Reitter; grandchildren, Jade Howard, Wesley Sims, Melissa Laughery, Steven Hammond, Daniel Hammond, Lauren Hammond, Megann Rowley, Devin Mann, Bryce Hammond, Evan Hammond, Ethan Hammond, Logan Reitter, and Peyton Reitter; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call at Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, from 4-7 P.M., Sunday, December 28, 2025, with a Vigil Service held at 6:30 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Marcella's name to Hospice of Central Ohio or St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.
