Obituary

Graveside funeral services celebrating the life of Lucy Madeline Chordas, 91, formerly of Newark, will be held at Newark Memorial Gardens, 11:30 A.M., Monday, November 8, 2021, with Deacon Eric Wright as celebrant.  Friends and family may call from 9-11 A.M., Monday, at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark.

Lucy died at the Valparaiso Care & Rehabilitation Center, Indiana, on Sunday, October 31, 2021.  She was born in Saint Boniface, Pennsylvania on February 27, 1930, to the late Anthony and Theresa (Sheehan) Thomas.

A longtime resident of Newark, Lucy recently moved to Valparaiso, Indiana to be near her son and his family.  She was a devout Catholic and former parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and St. Edward the Confessor.  Lucy was an avid card player and member of several different card clubs, at one time playing almost nightly.

She is survived by her son, Donald (Robin) Chordas; daughter-in-law, Laura Chordas; 8 grandchildren; Jason (Sarah), Brandon (Jalynn), Scott (Alyssa), Sonya (Alex), Dalynn, Jennifer (Jacob), Nichole (Brandon) and Ryan; 11 great-grandchildren, Addison, Lynden, Rowan, Auden, Lincoln, Theodore, Oliver, Claire, Gunnar, Jameson, Alice, and sister, Sr. Lenore Thomas; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Chordas; her sons, Dwayne Chordas and David Chordas; and 6 siblings.
