Obituary

Funeral services celebrating the life of Lucena Lim Ong Gonzales M.D., 70, of Newark, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 10:30 A.M., Saturday, November 17, 2018 with Rev. Albert Lim Ong as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark.

Lucena died at Riverside Methodist Hospital on Sunday, November 11, 2018. She was born in Cebu City, Philippines on January 18, 1948 to the late Angel and Dominga (Lim) Ong.

Lucena was a 1972 graduate of the Cebu Institute of Medicine where she earned her medical degree in family medicine. She spent 14 years working as a family physician in West Virginia before moving her practice to Newark in 1994, retiring from Licking Memorial Health Systems in 2013.

Lucena embraced the simplicity of life and enjoyed meeting friends and family for a shared meal. She formed many longstanding friendships during her years at medical school and loved traveling to meet up with her fellow alumni.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Emily Gonzales (Steven Norris); her son, Anthony Gonzales; siblings, Wigerto Ong, Estrella Ong, Rosalina Ong, Anita (Eusebio) Co, and Albert (Jenny) Ong; sister-in-law, Gloria Ong; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Lucena was preceded in death by her husband, Leonardo P. Gonzales; and her brother, Cesar Ong.
