Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial for Linda I. Scherer, 75, of Westerville, formerly of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 11:45 A.M., Friday, January 21, 2022, with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Linda, a former parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, died at her home on Sunday, January 16, 2022.  She was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on July 31, 1946, to the late James Harold and Lena (Damron) Hamilton.

She was a 1964 graduate of Portsmouth West High School and worked as a secretary in Newark City Schools for a short time.

Linda was an artistic individual and enjoyed reading, crafting, sewing, and making jewelry, especially rosary bracelets. She held a great devotion for her faith and her family, above all else. Her generous spirit and sincere concern made each relationship genuine and special.  Linda was an avid listener and could negotiate just about anything to your benefit or cause.

She will be greatly missed by her children, R. Brian (Candace) Scherer, Michelle (Jon) Jump, and Brandon (Laura) Scherer; grandchildren, Kira, Alex, Joel (Jessica), Brianna (Nick), Olivia, Abigail, Louis, Eliza, and Sylvia; sister, Karen Shriner-Gier; sisters-in-law, Ann Hamilton and Kathy Hamilton-Hussell; her husband's siblings, Carol Peckham, Donna Pickelheimer, Ray (Darlene) Scherer, Sue (Randy) Burnside, Joe (Carol) Scherer, Diane (Greg) Lodwick, Dean (Gail) Scherer, Rick Scherer, Danny (Debbie) Scherer, Lynne (Curt) Webb, and Ann Bartlett; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Roger M. Scherer; her siblings, Fred Hamilton, Byron Hamilton, and June (Thurman) Muncy; brothers-in-law, Paul Shriner and Lee Gier; and her husband's siblings, Tom Peckham, Art Pickelheimer, Fr. Gary Scherer, Pat Scherer, Alice Scherer, Mark Scherer, Sandra Scherer, and James Scherer.

Friends and family may call at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 4-6 P.M., Thursday, January 20, 2022, with a Vigil Service held at 5:30 P.M.  Due to COVID, masks are required for all services at the funeral home and the church.
