A Mass of Christian Burial for Lewie Oberfield, 61, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 12:00 Noon, Saturday, February 10, 2024, with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Lewie, a lifelong parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, died at Licking Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. He was born in Newark, Ohio on August 13, 1962, to John "Jack" and Ann (Van Arsdale) Oberfield of Newark.

Following his graduation from Newark High School in 1981, Lewie traveled to Japan with his family to celebrate. This sparked his interest in international travel and over the years he was able to visit many countries, enjoying the different cultures. He began his work career with Licking/ Knox Goodwill, working locally with ODOT, Licking County Health Department, and the Newark Courthouse. He also worked with LICCO for many years. Lewie truly loved his job and made many friendships with his co-workers over the years. He also attended the LMH Wellness Center and was a great joy and motivator to those around him.

Lewie was a great fan of The OSU Buckeyes and was ecstatic when he attended the Rose Bowl, cheering the football team on in person. He liked to watch monster movies, and was an avid reader and collector of books, especially those about the Orient. He was fascinated with the study of maps and would often be seen carrying around an atlas. Above all, Lewie loved his family and carried a smile big enough to brighten the room. He never met a stranger and was loved by all. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, Lewie is survived by his siblings, Connie (Bob) Noth, Andy Oberfield, Julie Spisak, and Susie Oberfield; nieces and nephews, Allison (Steven) Reeves, Lindsey (Adam) Hornbacher, Samantha, Nate and Zach Noth, Sabrina, Sophie and Simon Spisak; great nephew and niece, Theo and Annika; several aunts; and many beloved cousins.

Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 4-7 P.M., Friday, February 9, 2024, with a Vigil Service held at 6:30 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lewie's name can be made to the Licking County Board of Developmental Disabilities, 116 North 22nd Street, Newark, Ohio 43055.
