Karl Joseph Matesich, 76, of Newark, died at his home on Thursday, April 9, 2026. He was born in Zanesville, Ohio on January 27, 1950, to the late Stephen J. and Audrey Mae (Johnson) Matesich.

A 1968 graduate of Newark Catholic High School, Karl attended Notre Dame University for one year prior to transferring to The Ohio State University where he earned his Bachelor in Agricultural Economics. He worked in materials testing with Owens Corning and retired from Ashland Chemical in 2016.

Karl enjoyed the quiet things in life, reading, kayaking, and bird watching.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Beth (John) Anderson; brother, Mike (Barb) Matesich; sister-in-law, Kay Swickard; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Karl was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul and Mark Matesich; and his sister, Martha Matesich.

Graveside services for Karl will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery, date to be announced.
