A Funeral Mass for Julie H. Cooper, 89, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Monday, February 9, 2015, with Rev. JCP Sullivan, Parish Priest as celebrant. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Julie died at Licking Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. She was born in Newark, Ohio on April 12, 1925 to the late Herman and Amy (Kuster) Henzy.

Julie, a 1942 graduate of Newark High School, attended Denison University following graduation and later completed her studies, earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. For a period of time, Julie taught chemistry for nurses at OSU-Newark, which she greatly enjoyed.

As a lifelong resident of Newark, Julie has been a member of many community based organizations including, Monday Talks, The Twentieth Century Club, Progressive Club, Licking Memorial Twig, and was a former board member of Newark Hospital.

Julie enjoyed dancing with her husband, playing cards and working puzzles. She liked to travel and visit friends at Buckeye Lake, but especially enjoyed meeting up with her friends at Jugz. Over the years, Julie spent many hours working on needlecrafts, knitting and crocheting. She was an avid gardener and could often be seen working outside in her yard.

She is survived by her middle school sweetheart and husband of 70 years, James R. Cooper, of the home; her sons and daughter-in-law, James R. and Ellen Cooper of Granville, Thomas Cooper of Cleveland Heights, and John Cooper of Newark; grandchildren, Timothy (Molly) Cooper, Matthew (Emily) Cooper, Andrew (Diana) Cooper, Carla Victoroff, Randall Cooper, John Jacob (Ronit) Cooper, Josh (Mindy) Cooper; step-granddaughter, Stephanie Kirkpatrick; 9 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; her sister, Amy Bowden of Newark; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Julie was preceded in death by her sisters, Nancy (John) Schaller and Dorothy (George) Madden; and her brother-in-law, Jerry Bowden.
