Joyce Ann
Zimmerman
Sep 13, 1940 — Oct 24, 2023
Newark
A Mass of Christian Burial for Joyce Ann Zimmerman, 83, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 11 A.M., Monday, November 6, 2023, with Fr. Mike Gentry as celebrant. Visitation will be held at the church for 30 minutes prior to the service. Inurnment at St. Joseph Cemetery will be held at 2:30 P.M. that same day.
Joyce died at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. She was born in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania to the late Joseph F. and Elsie F. (Mance) Zimmerman.
A member of the last graduating class of St. Francis de Sales High School, 1958, Joyce was also the last St. Francis Homecoming Queen to be crowned.
Joyce was devoted to her Catholic faith and was a longtime parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Church, which she considered her "home away from home". She volunteered tirelessly as an adorer, adult server, ministry of comfort, RCIA catechist, Women of St. Francis, Knox-Licking Vocations Club, and attended several Walking with Purpose, Alpha, and Bible study seminars. She was also dedicated to serving St. Vincent de Paul and worked their crisis line on a regular basis.
She is survived by her daughters, Toni Ann (Rick) Smith, Joan (Shad) Richards, and Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" (Rod) Gutridge; 6 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brothers, James (Leslie) Zimmerman and Jeffrey Zimmerman; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her infant son, Mark Anthony Sforza; and sister, Jean Zimmerman.
Memorials in Joyce's name can be made to St. Vincent de Paul, or Hospice of Central Ohio.
Joyce was eternally grateful to the many friends and fellow parishioners that provided her kindness, compassion, and help with transportation through the years. With this thought in mind, Joyce had requested that all be invited to Murphy Hall for a luncheon provided by her family, immediately following the funeral Mass.
