A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph Francis Campbell Jr., 79, of Buckeye Lake, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 26, 2024, with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Granville, with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Joe died at Pickering House, Lancaster, on Monday, July 22, 2024. He was born in Newark, Ohio on March 25, 1945, to the late Joseph F. and Ruth Ann (Toothman) Campbell Sr.

He attended St. Francis De Sales School and was a 1963 graduate of Newark Catholic High School, following which, he attended The Ohio State University.

Joe served as Newark Councilman of the Fourth Ward from 1974-1975, Newark Council President for 2 terms, was with the Board of Elections for multiple years, and was a Commodore of the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club, 2008.

Joe was a Captain in the Ohio Army National Guard and Officer of the 211th Maintenance Company, Newark, as well as Company Commander of the 214th Maintenance Company, Coshocton.

He retired from State Farm Insurance Company following 40 years of service as a manager in data processing. During retirement Joe volunteered as a tutor in the local community and served alongside his wife, Joni, on the Good Neighbor Committee of Buckeye Lake Yacht Club, generating gifts and funds for area children in need.

Joe married his wife, Joan E. "Joni" Jenkins, on July 12, 1986, and recently celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary. He loved his family first, his friends, his country, and numerous activities which include Newark Catholic and Ohio State Football and Indianapolis 500 races. He was an avid yachtsman and enjoyed fishing, deer hunting on the family property, and the music of Pat Dailey, Willie Nelson, and Jimmy Buffet. He was extremely intelligent and quick witted and had many memorable stories that he loved to share with family and friends. Joe never knew a stranger.

In addition to his loving wife, Joni, Joe is survived by his 3 children, Joseph F. Campbell III (Brooke), Michaela Maglalang (Dmitri), and Christopher Campbell (Lisa); grandchildren, Mason Maglalang and Mia Campbell; siblings, Thomas K. Campbell (Molly), Carolyn Campbell McGonagle (Pat), Betsy Campbell Beckman (Jay); sisters-in-law, Judy Kempton (John), Joyce Shanahorn (Ed), and Ann Jenkins; special friends, Nick and Jane Schultz and Janet Simi; and many nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; younger brother, Robert C. Campbell; and brother-in-law, Jim Jenkins.

Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 4-7 P.M., Thursday, July 25, 2024, with a Vigil Service held at 6:30 P.M.
