Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial for John "Jack" Oberfield, 92, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 10, 2024, with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark.

Jack, a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, died at his home, on Friday, August 2, 2024. He was born in Newark, Ohio on September 15, 1931, to the late Alfred and Agnes (Murphy) Oberfield.

A 1949 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, Jack Served 4 years with the United States Navy. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from The Ohio State University in 1958 and became a CPA in 1962. His professional organizations include the Ohio Society of CPA's and the American Institute of CPA's. Jack was a partner at Wilson, Shannon, Oberfield and later formed Ohio Producers, Inc. He was involved with accounting, taxation and financial consulting for closely held business with special expertise in oil and gas taxation.

Jack was devoted to his local community and stated it was a great place to live and work. He served on numerous boards and committees, including the Newark Downtown Association, Goodwill Industries, and was a founding member of the Newark Catholic High School Foundation. He was also a member of Newark Rotary (Paul Harris Fellow), Newark Elks Lodge, Moundbuilders Country Club, and The OSU Alumni Association.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 67 years, Barbara Ann (Van Arsdale) Oberfield; his children, Connie (Bob) Noth, Andy Oberfield, Julie Spisak, and Susie Oberfield; grandchildren, Allison (Steven) Reeves, Lindsey (Adam) Hornbacher, Samantha, Nate and Zach Noth, Sabrina, Sophie and Simon Spisak; great grandchildren, Theo and Annika; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Oberfield, Dorothy Oberfield, and Rose Ann Oberfield; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his son, Lewis "Lewie" Oberfield; and his 7 siblings, Richard, Joseph, James, and Bernard Oberfield, Rita (Barney) Smith, Ruth (Don) Dittoe, and Mary (Jack) Deardurff.

Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 4-7 P.M., Friday, August 9, 2024, with a Vigil Service held at 6:30 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Jack's name to the Newark Catholic High School Foundation, 1 Green Wave Drive, Newark, Ohio 43055.
