A Funeral Mass for John "Jack" Thomas McManus, 87, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Monday, September 11, 2017, with Rev. G. Michael Gribble as celebrant. Private inurnment services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

Jack, a longtime parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, died at Mt. Carmel East Medical Center on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. He was born in Cambridge, Ohio on June 24, 1930 to the late Walter and Margaret (Shuttleworth) McManus

Jack worked for many years as a plastic engineer for various businesses in Ohio including Ohio Plastics, Kenton Molded Plastics, and Cycra Racing, from which he retired at the age of 77. He was a 40 year member of the Society of Plastic Engineers and Past President of their Central Ohio Chapter. Jack was also a former member of the Moundbuilders Country Club and the Kenton Elks Lodge.

To say that Jack was an avid sport enthusiast would be an understatement. For countless years, Jack embraced the Newark Catholic Athletic Community and has been one of their longtime and faithful supporters. Regardless the sport, no event became official until that familiar voice in the crowd could be heard bellowing, "Gimme an 'I'…!" as Jack tirelessly rooted for his favorite green and white team. This boisterous cheer will forever be remembered.

Jack is survived by his wife, Janet (McKenna) McManus; children, Connie (John) Adams, Barbara Reichenbach; and Thom (Bethanne) McManus; 8 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren (+2 more on the way); step-children, Geoffrey T. (Valerie) Cahill, Pamela J. (Mike) Cordle, Michael F. (Faye) Hill, and Susan M. Hill; 7 step-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Evelyn McManus; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved pup, Lilly.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his first wife, O. Lee McManus; grandson, Jason Adams; son-in-law, Rex Reichenbach; brothers, Hugh, Joe, Bob, and Roger McManus; sisters Mary Alice (John) Lerner and Betty (Russ) Cooper;

Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 2-5 P.M., Sunday, September 10, 2017 where a Vigil Service will be held at 4:30 P.M.
