In observance of his wishes, graveside funeral services will be held for John A. McGlasson Jr., 84, of Heath, 10 A.M., Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at Hanover Cemetery, Hanover, with Chaplain Jeff Smith as celebrant.

John passed away at his home on Sunday, March 15th, 2020, with family by his side. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on November 24, 1935, to the late Martha Grace Louise (Trout) McGlasson and John Arlie McGlasson.

John was retired from Owens Corning Fiberglass after 35 years of employment. He will be remembered as a kind man.  He was a kind, loving father and husband.  He enjoyed bingo, tractors, old western movies and especially The Andy Griffith Show.   He loved going to auctions and yard sales with his daughters, Jeanne and Jennifer.

John served in the United States Army from August 18, 1958 and served in Germany for two years. On March 18, 1961, John received a letter of appreciation from his unit commander.  It stated that John was one of the most reliable, hardworking members of the platoon.  He frequently worked long, hard hours with little rest or complaint. He qualified as a Marksman on the M-1 rifle in 1958, and a marksman on the carbine in 1959 and as an expert on the M-1 rifle in 1960, and awarded medals.  He was released from active duty and transferred to the US Army Reserve until May 27, 1961.

Surviving are his step children; Lynn (Steve) Wilson of Newark, Henry Gartner of Mt. Vernon, Kelly (Jack) Covert of Bradford, PA, Jeanne and Riley Rian of Heath, and Jennifer (Donnie) Felumlee of Hanover.  Also surviving are two siblings, Betty (Burl) Whaley, Vaughn McGlasson, Patricia Newman, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Barbara J. McGlasson; sister, Gracie (John) Cooperrider.

Jeanne Rian, Jennifer and Donnie Felumlee would like to thank the special caregivers for their kindness and care over the past three years and a very special thank you to the caregivers of Hospice of Central Ohio near his life's end.  You are truly angels.
