John K. Massey, 80, of Reynoldsburg, passed away on April 4, 2026, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. John was born November 19, 1945, to the late Deighton and Dorothy (Chapman) Massey. The youngest of nine children, he was preceded in death by his siblings Jean Glines, Ruth Robinson, Leona Brown, Elinor Robinson, Louise Jago, George Massey, and Judi Starlin.

He married Patricia Bogner on July 7, 1984. They were blessed with two daughters, Sarah (Julian) Perler and Rachel Massey (Alex Gaboric). Julian and Alex were not only sons-in-law, but truly sons to John. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Anderson, Grace, Claire, and Johnathan, who brought him immense joy and whom he deeply cherished.

John is also survived by his brother, Jim Dillie, brothers and sisters-in-law, Sandy Massey, Rebecca (George) Rebitski, Steven Bogner, and Laura Bogner. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

John proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He carried that experience with quiet strength and humility throughout his life. His service reflected the same courage, loyalty, and selflessness he showed to his family and friends every day.

He was a man who truly loved life. He enjoyed a good time, classic rock music turned up loud, a good book in his hands, a goofy dad joke, fishing, and woodworking. He found joy in creating, fixing, helping, and teaching others. If someone needed a hand, John was always the first to show up and the last to leave. He was the person you called when something broke, when you didn’t know what to do, and he would simply drop anything to help you. His quiet presence always made those around him feel safe.

More than anything, he loved his family. He was a devoted husband, proud father, and loving grandfather. He showed his love through his actions every day by working hard, helping, listening, laughing and ensuring his family was always cared for. He especially treasured time with his grandchildren, whether playing with them, reading to them, cheering them on, fishing, or simply being together.

John tackled every obstacle in his life with faith and trust that “It’ll be alright”. In the last four years of his life, John deepened his faith and became Catholic, a decision that brought him great peace and strength and became a meaningful part of his life.

With faith, we trust he has been welcomed home and now rests in eternal peace. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 11 A.M., Tuesday, April 14, 2026, with Rev. Fr. Gotfried Mulisa Emmanuel, AJ, as celebrant. Visitation will be held at the Church, 4-7 P.M., Monday, April 13, 2026, with a Vigil Service held at 6:30 P.M.
